We clean our homes on a regular basis to keep them clean and tidy. We clean floors, windows, and walls but there are still areas that get overlooked. Areas, that if left untouched for too long can build up debris that create the proper conditions for mold.

1. Curtains

Curtains need to be vacuumed in order to clean dust off and other possible debris. You can also wash these in order to clean them. It is important to first check the manufacturer’s label before attempting to wash and dry curtains so that you don’t ruin them.

2. Coffee Pot

Using your coffee pot on a regular basis will cause residue to build up inside of it. This will change the flavor of the coffee you brew. One way you can clean this area out is by running vinegar and hot water through it.

3. Dishwasher

You will need to clean your dishwasher from time to time in order to remove food leftovers as well as water build up. Removing and cleaning the filter while running a wash of baking soda will help to disinfect the machine. This is important in order to ensure that it is sanitary to wash your dishes inside.

4. Decorative Pillows

Many of us overlook the decorative pillows that sit on our couches and in other areas of our home. Here they accumulate particles such as dead skin and dust mites that will get into them. You can wash the pillow covers if possible but be careful to follow the instructions on the label.

5. Under Appliances

Areas such as the one under your refrigerator seldom get cleaned on a regular basis. It is important to schedule deep cleanings on your calendar to take care of these areas. Debris that build up under appliances can lead directly to mold and attract pests if not dealt with in a timely manner.

6. Doorknobs & Light Switches

These objects get frequently used in our homes and are often overlooked when it comes to cleaning. It is important to place a focus on them when cleaning the home. These should be cleaned on a regular basis to prevent germs and other bacteria from being passed around the home.

7. Pet Supplies & Bedding

Any pet supplies stored in your home will need to be cleaned regularly as well. We all love our pets but they bring lots of dirt and other debris into our home. Debris from pets usually is in areas that your little friend frequents and in their toys. Ensure that these areas are cleaned so that your animal won’t spread any unwanted pests or debris around your home.

8. Ceiling Fans

You should keep an eye on ceiling fans in your home for dust. Clean the blades with an extending duster or safely with a ladder. You should use dust and allergen cleaner on the blades to prevent dust and build up in the future. Dust your fan blades regularly and they will never become difficult for you to clean.
